Google y los ultracuerpos. / Google and the Body Snatchers

No quería escribir en este blog cosas no relacionadas con las publicaciones, pero bueno, lo siguiente tiene que ver con los eReaders, aunque no lo parezca. Y me parece tan interesante que tengo que decirlo o reviento.

Recuerdo haber visto esa película, la invasión de los ultracuerpos. Aquellas vainas que acababan apoderándose de las personas, uno se dormía y despertaba poseído por un alienígena. No se podía uno dormir ni cinco segundos.

Bueno, quizá esté aventurándome demasiado, pero yo creo que Google está enviando sus naves al planeta Apple. Por otro camino, se está construyendo discretamente a un mundo paralelo. Primero, desarrollamos un set de aplicaciones en constante crecimiento. Luego, sacamos un SO llamado Android basado en Linux. Finalmente, el Nexus One, y en preparación un tablet como el de Apple. ¿Qué es lo próximo?

Lo próximo es que muchas aplicaciones de código abierto escritas en Java puedan correr en estos dispositivos, y lo último es poner un teclado, el tablet y un procesador mayor en una batidora. Y como logotipo... ¿un plátano? Como he dicho antes, seguro que estoy soñando. Nada apunta a que Google vaya a ponerse a fabricar ordenadores, eReaders... de momento.

Sin embargo, ese olor a empresa joven, esa empatía de superhéroe, esa interfaz amigable y futurista... ¿por qué me recuerda tanto a Apple? Por lo que he leído, cualquier aplicación hecha en Java puede ser llevada a Android. Y resulta que el iPhone es el dispositivo móvil con más aplicativos disponibles en el mundo. Parece un pastel muy rico para no hacer nada.

Está claro que Apple no es precisamente una empresa cansada o que vaya a dormirse. Estas vainas van a necesitar paciencia. Pero hoy en día si yo fuera a comprarme un iPhone no dejaría de mirarme el Nexus One.
¿Soy un síntoma aislado?

I did not want to write in this blog things unrelated to the publications, but well, what follows has to do with eReaders, believe it or not. And I find it so interesting that I have to say or burst.

I remember seeing that movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Those pods were taking the people, one fell asleep and woke possessed by an alien. No one could sleep for more than a few seconds.

Well, maybe this is a nonsense, but I think Google is sending its ships to the Apple planet. In other way, a parallel world is being built discreetly. First, we developed a set of applications that is steadily increasing. Then we get an OS called Android and based on Linux. Finally, the Nexus One, and preparing a tablet like Apple. What next?

The next thing is that many open source applications written in Java can run on these devices, and the last thing is to put a keyboard, the tablet and a higher processor in a blender. And as a logo... a banana?
As I said before, sure I'm dreaming. Nothing suggests that Google will produce computers, eReaders... for the moment.

However, that smell of young company, that superhero empathy, that user-friendly and futuristic interface... Why that reminds me so much to Apple? If I am not wrong, any application written in Java can be carried to Android. It turns out that the iPhone is the portable device with more applications available in the world. It seems a very rich cake for doing nothing.

Clearly, Apple is not a tired company, neither is going to sleep. These pods will need some patience. But today if I were to buy an iPhone I would not leave the Nexus One without a look.
Am I an isolated symptom?
